A new theme!
Tuesday, April 15th, 2008 |As promised I updated the wordpress theme of this blog. Of course it isn’t a custom layout, I just picked a free layout that I liked and changed to fit my need but I’m pretty happy with the result.
Hopefully the number of readers will grow this year as soon as I will release a couple of tools I’m working on and a couple of very interesting tutorials about how to collect a bunch of juicy links!
So, do you like the new layout?
Shoemoney launches Fighers.com
Thursday, April 10th, 2008 |I knew that Jeremy Schoemaker was going to launch Fighters.com but I didn’t know when and I don’t remember him officially launching the site; at least not on his blog.
But today listening to a mainstream internet radio I heard a commercial about it and I checked it out.
The design of the Fighters.com is pretty slick, nothing special but it works for this kind of site. Most of the graphic elements are the banners from Bodog. I was honestly expecting a little bit more from the social aspect of the sites, while right now the site seems to be just a news portal with pictures and videos submission.
You can definitely recognize that this site was made mainly to make money more than giving out a service. This could be good, but sometimes a good service can give you a bigger return on the long run. Just a personal opinion.
Some updates about The Most Read Page
Tuesday, April 8th, 2008 |So, I haven’t write in few days (weeks…) so I just wanna give you an update about what is going on with this blog.
I just finished installing a what I think is a very cool plugin. It’s called Fluency and you can find it here. It’s basically a theme for the admin panel, nothing too fancy but I personally didn’t like the new one that comes with WordPress 2.5 (sorry Matt). The Fluency admin panel is really minimal looking and all the links are well ordinated on the side instead of being spread out on the top. Very cool, if you don’t like the new admin panel I seriously suggestion to try this out.
I’ll probably update the public theme as well, but I still didn’t find anything that I really like to use as a base for the new layout (I don’t have time to write a new theme for scratch). I’m thinking about using a layout more “magazine” style, even if I know I won’t write a lot and it might look awkward.
2 really exciting weeks
Monday, February 18th, 2008 |This week and the next one are going to be really exciting. This one because I could close a couple of very nice deals, Thursday there is going to be an SEO Meetup and because Friday I might make an important step toward my residency (and this is really big for me). Then the week after there will be BarCamp Miami and the Future of Web Application. I really hope I will meet a lot of new people.
Since I moved here in the states I never really networked as much I was used to do in Italy, and in 2008 I really want to improve this aspect of my business life. My 2 main point of interest will be Miami Refresh and some other local meetups relative to online marketing. Sadly I still cannot afford to move around the country from conference to conference, so I will have to do as much as I can locally.
Refresh Miami
Friday, February 1st, 2008 |Last wednesday I went for the first time to a Refresh Miami meeting. It was really really cool. The topic was about how to localize your site/software, and as soon I’ll publish a recap of it.
I also met a lot of interesting people, got some good ideas and I can’t wait to go at the end of february at the BarCamp Miami and at the Future of Web Apps in Miami.
My new year’s resolutions for 2008
Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008 |Ok, I always like reading other people new year’s resolutions so this year I want to write mine on this blog.
First of all I’d like to start writing here at least a post per week. I know, it shouldn’t be that difficult but try when you are not really good in writing in english…
Then I’d like to double my affiliate marketing income by 70%-100% by the end of the year. I already have few ideas about how to do it, I already started working on some of them last month, I just need to focus on them and get them done. Doing this my “extra income” would almost match my “ordinary income” and this mean that my dream about making Thirtynine LLC my first occupation would be really close.
I’d like (actually I have to) improve my accounting skills. Now I’m way too disorganized and if I want to get more serious about my business I have to learn to be more accurate with accounting (or somebody (IRS) will f**k me big time some day).
I’d like to finish at least one of the 2.0 ideas I had in 2007 and I never finished, I don’t care if I will have to go to pay somebody else to do it. This also depends by the profits of Thirtynine.
I’d like to buy an house. The main problem is where… Hopefully I’ll figure it out before April, and hopefully I will have a mortgage approved.
So, now I just have to wait till next December and check if I made it.
If you have a page with your new year’s resolutions feel free to post them in the comments. I’ll be happy to read and share them.
I know… I’m bad
Friday, December 14th, 2007 |I know, I promised i was going to write more often and I didn’t do it.
But try to understand me. English is not even my first language… it’s really take me a lot of time to write even a short post and beside that I don’t wanna write about something just to write something. I’ve been taught that if you don’t have anything intelligent you should shut up.
Anyway this is going to be my first resolution for the next year, writing at least one post every week.
Harry Potter… what a drug!
Sunday, July 29th, 2007 |Ok, just finished reading the last - sigh - episode of the Harry Potter’s saga.
It was great! It was really hard to eat, work, sleep and doing other basic functions because I was seriously addicted to that book. I wouldn’t be surprise to find out that it has been cursed somehow so we cannot stop reading till the last page.
But I don’t want to say nothing about the story, I don’t have a lot of readers but that’s not a good excuse to ruin the pleasure of finding out by themselves that Harry Potter dies in the very last page how the story goes.
The only thing I wanna say is that JK Rowling found a very smart way to end the book… I might talk about it later on…
Everything else during the period between now and the last post ran smoothly, I just can’t wait to see the project I’m working with my partner in crime working, I really think it will be successful…
Hopefully we’ll be able to launch a private beta by the end of the summer and maybe a public beta by the end of the year. Of course, with some funding everything would be easier and we could both leave our current 9.30 almost 10 to 7 8 to 5 job, but we decided to try to start without it. We’ll see what will happen…
