Mosso’s New Control Panel

Friday, June 27th, 2008 |

As I write a while ago in this Mosso review is my new company I’m using to host all my websites and all my client’s websites.

What I really liked since the beginning was their control panel, simple and intuitive. They already had at that time a newer control panel in beta test but 3 days ago they totally redesign that one as well and it will be launched officially in about two weeks.

This is a big release for Mosso and it users in a brand new, dynamic framework designed to power modern web applications. You’ll notice several new features:

  • Sites, clients, and other items are no longer listed 10 at a time. Now you can view and sort all your sites and clients together in one scrollable list. This is really helpful if you are hosting a lot of sites and client’s sites.
  • Some lists even allow you to quickly search for items, with results appearing as you type.
  • Through the magic of ajax, pages appear faster and load dynamically. You’ll be able to get to the things you need with more speed and efficiency.
  • Fully redesigned the interface to allow for two-level navigation, with the main topics along the top and the sub categories down the left side.
  • An all-new online file manager allows you to browse, add, and modify files and folders right through the control panel. You’ll be able to zip and unzip files and change permissions. This is another great features for those times you are not in front of your computer and you need to do basic operations on your sites.

I just started using it now, even if it hasn’t officially launched yet, so I might write more things about it in the future.

Remember that if you want to learn more about Mosso or give it a try (they have a fully refundable 30 days test drive) you can check their official website here and please add my referral code REF-THIRTYNINE that will give you $50 credits toward your first month of hosting.

The Domains market is far from an end

Sunday, May 25th, 2008 |

A lot of people think that web domains market is getting too saturated to make some good money.
I’m personally not a domainer but I often buy domains hoping to develop them one day.
Anyway, there is still a lot of money to be made with domains. How? Think about the future.
When the domains market started nobody was thinking about used hybrid cars, or used hydrogen car. Neither today they are pretty rare. But they will be very common and profitable in the future. So the related domains.
A couple of days ago gasprices.com has been sold for $225,000. Do you think is it just a coincidence that one of the hottest topic of today is gas price? I’m pretty sure nobody would have spent that kind of money if gas was sold for $0.50 per gallon.
So if you want to jump into the market today there is plenty of room, just try to think to what is not common yet and in few years you might a small fortune in your portfolio.

Testing out Flock

Friday, April 18th, 2008 |

Flock is a web browser based on Mozilla. More than a browser, I would define Flock a “Social Browser” cause it integrates many of the most common social networks, web apps and web mails.

I’m actually writing this blog post from the blog editor included in Flock, just ad your blog address, user and password and you are ready to go.  Not only, I just dragged the screenshot about from my desktop to the text area and Flock asked me if how wanted to upload this image. I could pick between Facebook and Flicker, then after giving it a title, description and tags it uploaded it and inserted in my post. Pretty damn impressive.

From a web browsing point of view it seems pretty fast, maybe even faster than Firefox, and I can actually see myself using it as default browser… if I wasn’t a web designer. Firebug is the only extension that I can’t really work without it.

Anyway, this post was just a test for myself to see how Flock was working.

Good night everybody… good because tomorrow TGI FRIDAY!

When will the Web 2.0 bubble blow up?

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007 |

Today I read this really interesting article about what could happen soon in Silicon Valley.

It’s really interesting thinking how much money and capitals are flowing into hundreds of startup companies. I personally dream about having my own startup company, and making money in this Web 2.0 era like other guys in their 20’s. But how long is going to last? Is this the right moment to jump on the train or would it be better waiting the next round?

I personally think that right now everybody is coming out with their Web 2.0 product, and in my opinion most of them are useless. Yes, it’s cool to plan an event with some Web 2.0 application but is it really necessary? Making few call phones wouldn’t be easier? Probably people will start to figure it out pretty soon and this will be the end of most of this startups.

I’m actually working with my co-worker Dustin to something that could be a cool online tool, nothing really new but an improvement of something already existing. Will see what will happen, but we already decided we are not going to look for any venture capital investment…

Shoemoney’s server is DOWN! Lets find out why!

Thursday, February 22nd, 2007 |

As every morning I was going to read my favorite blog (Shoemoney) and I found out that the server is down. Probably he’s already working on to fix everything as soon as possible, but what I’m thinking about is: why the server is down?
Some times it happens but it’s always fun trying to guest the reason.
So here are my guess:

  • Some russian hacker was pissed about some of his posts so decided to take the server down
  • He shoots another link bait like the Bush one and Digg traffic swamped the server
  • He made so much money in the last 24h that he decide to retire.

What do you think? Why Shoemoney’s server is down?

YouTube in big troubles

Saturday, January 27th, 2007 |

YouTube video service to learn who uploaded pirated copies of episodes of television shows “24″ and “The Simpsons,” The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday.

The subpoena, filed Jan. 18, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, asks YouTube to hand over information to identify the subscriber so Fox can stop the infringement, the Journal reported.

The four-episode season premiere of thriller show 24, starring Kiefer Sutherland, appeared on the site ahead of its TV broadcast, and 12 episodes of the Simpsons were being distributed on YouTube by a subscriber called “ECOtotal,” the subpoena’s declaration said, according to the paper.

Fox said it officially notified YouTube about the episodes and requested immediate removal or to disable access to the service, the Journal said.

News about the subpoena filed surfaced on the blog, Google Watch.

The same group of episodes were uploaded under the username of Jorge Romero on the video site LiveDigital, to which Fox also issued a subpoena, the paper said.

A spokesman for LiveDigital told the Journal that the material was taken down right away.

Google and Fox officials were not immediately available for comment.
