My new iPhone 3G

Saturday, July 12th, 2008 |

At the second trial, after more than 3 hours of line (it wasn’t even morning… i went at the apple store at 3.45pm) I got my new iPhone 3G.

I love it, 3G is blazing fast, iPhone Apps are awesome (I was expecting more free ones tho). One of the applications is kinda an answer to old post about airTunes over the iPhone, and it’s called Remote. Basically you can use your iPhone as remote for your iTunes, choosing what to play and were to play it over airTunes. The only (and biggest) limit is that you can play only the music you have on your Mac (or PC) that is actually the one who’s streaming the datas. I still wish I could play wireless my iPhone music on my speakers without having to open my bag and setup my laptop every time… well at least it’s a start.

Ready for the iPhone 3G

Thursday, July 10th, 2008 |

I can’t wait for tomorrow morning. I’m so ready to try the new iPhone and with it I also have few projects I’d like to try, like developing my domain www.freeiphoneapplications.com and making it a site well I personally review all the free applications offered by the iTunes store.

Later on next week I’ll also try to launch a postback URL based conversion tracking script, so if you are a Never Blue Ads affiliate stay tuned cause you’ll love it (or at least you’ll think might be helpful ;) ).

Twinkle, Fring and much more: a new life for my iPhone

Tuesday, April 15th, 2008 |

Last week I jailbroke my iPhone for the first time, but after playing a little bit with it I decided to restore it and wait for June to be able to install any application. But I couldn’t resist. Today I jailbroke it again.

The first two applications I wanted to add today were Twinkle, a Twitter client for iPhone, and Fring, what I consider the (almost) ultimate IM client for iPhone.

Twinkle is not just a Twitter client but it has a unique feature: Twitter geo-localization. It basically give you the ability to see the tweets of people using Twinkle within a preset distance from you. It also let you add pictures to your posts (and I can’t understand why everybody is taking pictures while taking a crap…).

Fring is an IM client that works with all the major chat and VOIP protocols letting you chat and also call your contacts from all your different accounts. It’s a killer application, I just wish the contacts list was a little bit clearer. It’s great if used in combination with Insomnia, another iPhone application that keep the internet connection alive even when screen is turned off.

So, new life for my iPhone, now I just need to pick a good RSS reader and a PDF reader.

Random thought about the Apple’s keynote

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008 |

Wow. A lot of people isn’t happy about this last Apple’s keynote but I think they made big changes.

First the iPhone. Finally when I get lost driving around I can find on the map where I am without checking every single street’s name. And I really love webshots, I already put a couple of them on my “first page” (Jajah and Google). I’m kinda upset that they still didn’t introduce the airtunes on the iPhone. I really think it’s a natural evolution and I can’t understand why they didn’t do it yet. You can stream your movies from your computer to your phone but you can’t stream your music (much less data) to an airport express?

Then the movie renting. I think it’s going to be a revolution in the movie industry, not because they are the first trying to rent a movie online (other people tried before) but because I think this time they will make it the standard as iTunes is already for buying music.

Time Capsule. I wish they came out with it before I bought my MyBook 500gb… too late, I don’t know when I’ll buy my next external drive.

Office 2008. Sadly I have to say finally. I wish I never have to open a Microsoft application but this is still a standard (but I’m trying to use web applications as much as possible).

And now the Mac Book Air. Somebody loves it. Somebody hates it. I remember people say that nobody would have bought a $600 but then I saw lines in front of the stores… In 6 months we’ll find out if Steve Jobs was right once again. I wound never buy it, but only cause I’m not even in their target.

Looooong time…

Thursday, October 11th, 2007 |

I know, I haven’t write anything for more than a month. I actually wrote a news about VideoHybrids been shut down but it came back online before I could post it…

For who is interested I got my refound by Apple (now I’m waiting for Leopard to buy it) and I got other $106 from American Express (Amex… the way to go) so basically I paid my iPhone only $399. Not too bad for having it since day 1 of the iPhone era.

Today while having breakfast I was reading “The Flier”, a small classified ads magazine I receive by email, and with my surprise (maybe everybody already knew it) I saw people looking for “Google Ads Clickers”. C’mon seriously? I wonder if Google doesn’t know or just doesn’t care. They could easily get the toll number of this ads and sue the owner of it. Easy.

I think there is still a huge untouched profit on that gray area between web and reality, where we can use real word ads or media to drive people on our online business. It’s all about testing. As always.

Add iPhone’s Ringtones For Free

Friday, September 7th, 2007 |

Do you want to change your boring iPhone ringtone with a new one but you don’t want to spend $2 or hack your phone?
Ok here’s the answer to your “vital” problem:

  1. Choose an mp3 you want to use as a ringtone on your iPhone. Then using Windows Explorer or the Finder just duplicate it and rename it any AAC file to be “M4R”, then double-click on it. This file will be added to your iTunes library automatically.
  2. Connect your iPhone, click on your iPhone in iTunes, and go to the new ringtones section. You should now see your new ringtone listed here.
  3. Now SYNC your phone. Enjoy your new ringtone!
  4. I wonder if Apple will fix this shortcut immediately, or it will let it go… I mean, do they really believe that people fill all the gigabytes of their iPhone/iPod with music bought from Apple???

$100 refund to all the early iPhone adopters!

Thursday, September 6th, 2007 |

Wow, Steve Jobs this time really blow me away! $100 refund to all the early iPhone adopters after all the emails of complain he received.

Let’s analyze his open letter:

I have received hundreds of emails from iPhone customers who are upset about Apple dropping the price of iPhone by $200 two months after it went on sale. After reading every one of these emails, I have some observations and conclusions.

Actually “hundreds of emails” were only 10. All the other emails went directly in the junk mail box.

First, I am sure that we are making the correct decision to lower the price of the 8GB iPhone from $599 to $399, and that now is the right time to do it. iPhone is a breakthrough product, and we have the chance to ‘go for it’ this holiday season. iPhone is so far ahead of the competition, and now it will be affordable by even more customers. It benefits both Apple and every iPhone user to get as many new customers as possible in the iPhone ‘tent’. We strongly believe the $399 price will help us do just that this holiday season.

Really? Do you really think you are doing the correct decision? Wow I think this is the very first time I hear you saying something like this about Apple decisions

Second, being in technology for 30+ years I can attest to the fact that the technology road is bumpy. There is always change and improvement, and there is always someone who bought a product before a particular cutoff date and misses the new price or the new operating system or the new whatever. This is life in the technology lane. If you always wait for the next price cut or to buy the new improved model, you’ll never buy any technology product because there is always something better and less expensive on the horizon. The good news is that if you buy products from companies that support them well, like Apple tries to do, you will receive years of useful and satisfying service from them even as newer models are introduced.

Last time something dropped its price so much in such short time I think was the black Friday of Wall street.

Third, even though we are making the right decision to lower the price of iPhone, and even though the technology road is bumpy, we need to do a better job taking care of our early iPhone customers as we aggressively go after new ones with a lower price. Our early customers trusted us, and we must live up to that trust with our actions in moments like these.

This part actually really surprise me, I would never expected Apple doing anything like this *tear*.

Therefore, we have decided to offer every iPhone customer who purchased an iPhone from either Apple or AT&T, and who is not receiving a rebate or any other consideration, a $100 store credit towards the purchase of any product at an Apple Retail Store or the Apple Online Store. Details are still being worked out and will be posted on Apple’s website next week. Stay tuned.

Wow! I actually didn’t spend $100 last time I was in a Apple store cause I just spent $600 for a phone… Thanks Steve, now I know I still have $100 to spend in my favorite addiction: Apple products!

iPhone update coming soon…

Tuesday, August 7th, 2007 |

Today Apple introduced a restyled version of the iMac and new version of some of their applications (iWork ‘08 and iLife ‘08).

Another thing really cool they introduced today is the possibility of sending to your .Mac account (your cause I don’t have one… yet) all the pictures you make with your iPhone. This feature will be available for .Mac in a week, but because our iPhones don’t have this feature right now it also mean that there will be another update (maybe 1.1.0?) within a week. When I tried today the only update available was for Front Row to make it compatible with the new iPhoto ‘08.

Of course we all hope that with this update more feature could come, like iChat…

By the way, I noticed that with the new version of iChat 4.0 on Leopard will be easier to send SMS to cell phones but I really hope that Apple will give us a better (and cheaper) way to chat with our iPhriends….

Update:
WOW! That was fast… if you have a .Mac account you can already use this new function for the iPhone. So… no major upgrades… for now…

Leopard is so cooooool!

Sunday, August 5th, 2007 |

Ok, don’t ask me how I know that but Leopard is really cool. It’s still a beta version, so there are a bunch of stuff that don’t work well and crash pretty often, but it’s already a good sneak peak of what a cool OS we are going to use so soon…

There are a bunch of small things that I really like (beside of course the main features that everybody knows), like the categories for the iChat contacts and stacks. I’m pretty sure there is a gazillion of things that I didn’t try read about but I have time between now and october when I’ll be able to buy the final version to gather more informations about them.

One week of iPhone: unspoken problems!

Thursday, July 5th, 2007 |

Tomorrow will be my first weekversary with my iPhone. This is real love my friends!

Anyway, I want to talk about some idea and problems nobody seems to care about, all so busy in try to discuss edge speed vs. 3G.

1. There’s no Archive for SMS: if you want to save a message of your girlfriend where she says that she loves you you have to save every single message she will send you since that message… I never save messages, but I think that’s an implementation Apple should think about.

2. The alarm doesn’t work if you turn off the phone. I’d like to turn off the phone while I’m sleeping and I don’t want anybody to call me, so the battery can last longer, but in this way I will never go to work and I’ll sleep for the rest of the day cause the alarm clock works only when the phone is on.

3. Please, save my passwords… I hate every time to login in every site I’m registered cause it doesn’t save the passwords. I think that a mobile version of keychain would be great. Could be also useful so I won’t have to remember my bank account and other codes I need to remember.

Beside this very small problems I have to say that I love it.
In this days I have to walk my roommate’s dog cause he’s in vacation (the roommate is in vacation… the dog is still here) and it’s so nice walking with the dog while I’m checking news on Engadget or TechCrunch.
