My new iPhone 3G

Written on July 12, 2008 – 11:41 am | by Dave |

At the second trial, after more than 3 hours of line (it wasn’t even morning… i went at the apple store at 3.45pm) I got my new iPhone 3G.

I love it, 3G is blazing fast, iPhone Apps are awesome (I was expecting more free ones tho). One of the applications is kinda an answer to old post about airTunes over the iPhone, and it’s called Remote. Basically you can use your iPhone as remote for your iTunes, choosing what to play and were to play it over airTunes. The only (and biggest) limit is that you can play only the music you have on your Mac (or PC) that is actually the one who’s streaming the datas. I still wish I could play wireless my iPhone music on my speakers without having to open my bag and setup my laptop every time… well at least it’s a start.

Ready for the iPhone 3G

Written on July 10, 2008 – 1:36 pm | by Dave |

I can’t wait for tomorrow morning. I’m so ready to try the new iPhone and with it I also have few projects I’d like to try, like developing my domain www.freeiphoneapplications.com and making it a site well I personally review all the free applications offered by the iTunes store.

Later on next week I’ll also try to launch a postback URL based conversion tracking script, so if you are a Never Blue Ads affiliate stay tuned cause you’ll love it (or at least you’ll think might be helpful ;) ).

Mosso’s New Control Panel

Written on June 27, 2008 – 1:31 pm | by Dave |

As I write a while ago in this Mosso review is my new company I’m using to host all my websites and all my client’s websites.

What I really liked since the beginning was their control panel, simple and intuitive. They already had at that time a newer control panel in beta test but 3 days ago they totally redesign that one as well and it will be launched officially in about two weeks.

This is a big release for Mosso and it users in a brand new, dynamic framework designed to power modern web applications. You’ll notice several new features:

  • Sites, clients, and other items are no longer listed 10 at a time. Now you can view and sort all your sites and clients together in one scrollable list. This is really helpful if you are hosting a lot of sites and client’s sites.
  • Some lists even allow you to quickly search for items, with results appearing as you type.
  • Through the magic of ajax, pages appear faster and load dynamically. You’ll be able to get to the things you need with more speed and efficiency.
  • Fully redesigned the interface to allow for two-level navigation, with the main topics along the top and the sub categories down the left side.
  • An all-new online file manager allows you to browse, add, and modify files and folders right through the control panel. You’ll be able to zip and unzip files and change permissions. This is another great features for those times you are not in front of your computer and you need to do basic operations on your sites.

I just started using it now, even if it hasn’t officially launched yet, so I might write more things about it in the future.

Remember that if you want to learn more about Mosso or give it a try (they have a fully refundable 30 days test drive) you can check their official website here and please add my referral code REF-THIRTYNINE that will give you $50 credits toward your first month of hosting.

The Domains market is far from an end

Written on May 25, 2008 – 10:45 pm | by Dave |

A lot of people think that web domains market is getting too saturated to make some good money.
I’m personally not a domainer but I often buy domains hoping to develop them one day.
Anyway, there is still a lot of money to be made with domains. How? Think about the future.
When the domains market started nobody was thinking about used hybrid cars, or used hydrogen car. Neither today they are pretty rare. But they will be very common and profitable in the future. So the related domains.
A couple of days ago gasprices.com has been sold for $225,000. Do you think is it just a coincidence that one of the hottest topic of today is gas price? I’m pretty sure nobody would have spent that kind of money if gas was sold for $0.50 per gallon.
So if you want to jump into the market today there is plenty of room, just try to think to what is not common yet and in few years you might a small fortune in your portfolio.

Moving (some of) my websites to Mosso

Written on May 25, 2008 – 4:11 pm | by Dave |

Few weeks ago (I wanted to try it before writing about it) I decided to give a try to Mosso.
Mosso is an hosting company backed by Rackspace Managed Hosting, and they offer what is called “cloud computing” or “grid computing”. Basically your website isn’t hosted on a single machine but on a network of servers interconnected as if in a grid running in parallel, sometimes using the technique of virtualization to maximize computing power per server.

The main advantage of using cloud computing to host your website is that it’s the easiest hosting to scale, even if just temporarily. If your site will hit Digg’s homepage it’s much harder to shut down a network of machines than a single one.

Wikipedia summarize the pros of using cloud computing in six points:

  • Location of infrastructure in areas with lower costs of real estate and electricity.
  • Sharing of peak-load capacity among a large pool of users, improving overall utilization.
  • Separation of infrastructure maintenance duties from domain-specific application development.
  • Separation of application code from physical resources.
  • Ability to use external assets to handle peak loads (not have to engineer for highest possible load levels).
  • Not have to purchase assets for one-time or infrequent intensive computing tasks.

I would also add:

  • You can use PHP, ASP, Ruby or whatever you like one the same hosting account
  • There’s no hardware to buy and you only pay for what you use.
  • Great live support
  • It’s a Rackspace Managed Hosting (but way much cheaper)

I haven’t personally tested Mosso scalability but I really hope to try it soon.
Another cool feature about Mosso is that they offer a fully white label hosting platform for your business and they make really easy to bill your clients for hosting services.

If you want to learn more about Mosso or give it a try (they have a fully refundable 30 days test drive) you can check their official website here and please add my referral code REF-THIRTYNINE.

Important Update!
Using my referral code you are going to have an immediate $50 toward your credit.

Keywords Research Tools

Written on May 8, 2008 – 1:29 am | by Dave |

Yesterday I went to the PPC Meetup here in Pompano Beach, and the topic of the day was keyword research. We analyzed some very good keyword research tools, like KeywordSpy (affiliate link), Spyfu, Hexatrack and few other tools.
Most of this tool let you find out (or at least they try) what keywords your competition is bidding on. If on one hand is true that more competition it means higher bids, it’s also true that if big fishes are bidding on certain keywords they probably made their researches before doing that and they are profitable.
Anyway I decided to create a simple list of what I think are really useful keyword research and elaboration tools.

Keywords Research Tools
They give you an idea of what your competition is bidding on and who is your competition for a certain keyword or niche.

Keywords Combination Tools
They help you creating a broader keywords selection mixing up different keywords. For example you can automatically associate your keyword “Car Dealer” with a list of cities and the results will be like “Car Dealer Chicago”, “Car Dealer Los Angeles”, etc. This is very helpful to hit the long tail.

If you need a free tool very similar to SpeedPPC send me a message and I’ll hook you up. (edit: my email is dave -@- themostreadpage.com )

Keywords Suggestion Tools

Of course there are tons of tools out there but these are the ones I mainly use.

Making money isn’t easy

Written on April 23, 2008 – 12:48 pm | by Dave |

Today I’ve been contacted by a guy from Digital Point who subscribed to an affiliate program with my affiliate link. He wanted to know if buying traffic on Digital Point and sent it to one of their offers (a diet offer) was a good idea. That’s it, no landing pages, no preselling, nothing. This guy wanted just to buy something like 10,000 visitors and send them straight to his affiliate link.
So I tried to explain him what he should do (because if he makes money I would make money of course), telling him what is working the best for myself, that is not a lot and it requires no more than 2 hours of work for a landing page. His answer was that all this work was not compatible with his skills. That was too much and that he was looking for something easier. Well, there is no easy money, at least not overnight.
You might find a way to have sites on “autopilot”, so then it will be easy money, but you still need to work to get to that point.
I wish making money was easy as buying bulk traffic and send it to an offer page, but if it was that easy I would probably drive a Lamborghini right now instead of my GTI

Testing out Flock

Written on April 18, 2008 – 12:56 am | by Dave |

Flock is a web browser based on Mozilla. More than a browser, I would define Flock a “Social Browser” cause it integrates many of the most common social networks, web apps and web mails.

I’m actually writing this blog post from the blog editor included in Flock, just ad your blog address, user and password and you are ready to go.  Not only, I just dragged the screenshot about from my desktop to the text area and Flock asked me if how wanted to upload this image. I could pick between Facebook and Flicker, then after giving it a title, description and tags it uploaded it and inserted in my post. Pretty damn impressive.

From a web browsing point of view it seems pretty fast, maybe even faster than Firefox, and I can actually see myself using it as default browser… if I wasn’t a web designer. Firebug is the only extension that I can’t really work without it.

Anyway, this post was just a test for myself to see how Flock was working.

Good night everybody… good because tomorrow TGI FRIDAY!
